VisiConsult’s X-ray Technology Day finally took place again in Stockelsdorf after a break of several years, attracting almost 100 visitors from the entire DACH region. The event showcased the latest developments in X-ray and CT technology, with a focus on artificial intelligence and emerging industry trends.
The day kicked off with a stimulating networking session, where attendees could get to know each other over a coffee before diving into the comprehensive program. Lennart Schulenburg opened the event with a warm welcome and set the stage for an inspiring keynote speech by Dr. Johannes Vrana on the transformation of non-destructive testing (NDT). Dr. Vrana emphasized the importance of embracing change and finding joy in innovation.
A highlight of the morning session was Daniel Grollmisch’s presentation on the Compass AI tool. As head of the AI development team, Grollmisch presented impressive results from initial customer tests, which showed a remarkable success rate of 97%. This presentation was complemented by a case study on real-world implementation by Philipp Westphal of GKN Aerospace, who showed interesting application possibilities of automation.
The morning continued with insightful presentations from industry experts, including Dr. Olaf Günnewig from diondo GmbH and Alexander Ulbricht from the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM), who presented various applications of CT technology. Dr. Frank Herold rounded off the session with an update on current R&D projects.
The afternoon program maintained the high level, starting with Thomas Wenzel, Executive Member of the Board of the DGZfP, who presented an innovative approach for AI in non-destructive testing. His discussion of training AI models based on general differences between passed and failed components instead of specific defect types offered a fresh perspective on defect detection.
Electric mobility was the focus when Guido Erbach from the VCbattery team presented the latest developments in CT inspection of EV batteries and highlighted the potential of the Excillum MetalJet for ultra-fast CT solutions for batteries. Patrick Harte from Fraunhofer FFB then provided insights into the development of a high-speed CT demonstrator for prismatic and pouch cells.
The technical presentations were concluded with an overview of the service offerings from Lars Grebien, supported by André Droste from Martinrea Honsel Germany GmbH, who shared his positive customer experience. Dr. Uwe Ewert provided information about the latest developments in RT standardization and Christopher Zepp, sales manager at VCxray, gave the final presentation on VCxray systems.
After this successful event, we are already looking forward to the next VisiConsult Technology Day and the opportunity to discuss innovative topics in non-destructive testing and X-ray technology again.
