Image Enhancement

The Xplus has many filter presets that can be applied through a single click. The most commonly used presets are contrast, details, edge, integration, addition, compass, emboss, inversion, logarithmical and FFCE enhancement. Depending on the application these filters have a huge impact on visual results. Every filter can be reversed or applied multiple times to achieve the desired result. Advanced users can also use the sophisticated filter builder to create their own presets.

Especially for operators new to the digital technology the image can be inversed to work in the film mode or even with a color coding. More advanced operations like the renown VisiConsult 3D projection can be performed without any additional modules. This leads to brilliant images and outstanding inspection results.

Image sources

The Xplus supports all image source types: Flat Panel Detectors (FPD/DDA), Line Cameras (LDA), film (RT) through digitizers, Image Intensifiers or CR scanners. Furthermore, VisiConsult is not bound to a certain brand and will offer the best solution for every inspection problem. The accomplished VisiConsult application engineers determine the best choice through sophisticated case studies.

Image sources can be easily exchanged as the device communication is natively embedded. This includes dead pixel correction, (auto)-calibration, sensitivity control and much more. LiveFilters datasheet

LiveFilters

This feature allows to apply image enhancement filters on live images, which leads to a high dynamic range representation and increased contrast. The result is a crisp and vivid live image suitable for real-time and in-motion inspection. To achieve the last notch of quality the MotionDetect feature applies an automatic noise reduction through background averaging.

A great side effect of the spread gray values is the “glass” look that allows the operator to look into the areas of different density without windowing. The effect of all these fine-tuned algorithms is activated by a single click. The best results are retrieved through panels with a high frame rate that allow a real-time inspection.

DICONDE datasheet

DICONDE

DICONDE is a file format and communication protocol that ensures the compatibility between every single step of the inspection chain and makes sure all information are saved lossless in compliance to the international standards. The Xplus offers, among many other storage solutions, a vendor neutral and scalable DICONDE functionality to archive the inspection results. An alternative can archive the image with overlays.

In order to ensure compatibility to existing systems VisiConsult developed a comprehensive conformance statement. In case no solution is present the system can also run as a standalone enterprise server. Through this approach critical industries (e.g. aerospace) can move from film to digital technology. The film archives will be replaced by the DICONDE database.

VisiConsult is certified by Boeing and fulfills all requirements of the BSS7044/7042 standard. In combination with the NADCAP certification this module makes the Xplus a powerful image processing system for the aerospace industry. In many cases this toolbox is also very useful for other industries, as the EN-17636 is a common standard for weld-inspection. The module is certified for digital detectors and Image Intensifiers.

Many of our reference customers appreciate the reliability and seamless integration into the base software. The tool allows automatic evaluation of resolution, detector quality, dead pixels, sophisticated quality reports and much more. The system has already multiple reference installations worldwide and has been proven over years.

Automated Defect Recognition

Especially industries with very high production volume demand a fully Automated Defect Recognition (ADR). The VisiConsult in-house developed ADR is compatible to all image sources on the market and fulfills international company and industry standards like VW, BMW, ASTM etc. Proven through many installations the full-automatic system can run 24/7 without human interaction. Typical applications are the in-line detection of porosities, inclusions or cracks.

Thresholds and defect types can be defined dynamically and the initial training of the system does not require any programming skills. More demanding tasks like automated measurement, completeness or density checks can be performed as well. This eliminates inspection bottlenecks in the production.

Image Overlays

Many standards require to have inspection process information, like serial number, batch, date, X-ray settings etc., embedded directly in the image. In times of traditional radiography this was done through lead numbers that were placed on the film. This approach is not only incredibly time-costly but also very inflexible. With Digital Radiography (DR) this information can be conveniently placed as an overlay – even in live mode.

Process Information like kV, mA, operator name, inspection decision and many more can be automatically provided through the Xplus. Other information like serial number, inspection marks and comments can be placed dynamically or demanded by the inspection sequence. This leads to an absolute process safety.

Video Recorder (VCR) datasheet

Video Recorder (VCR)

The XplusVCR is a real-time image recording module that has many successful installations on the market. Typical applications are archiving pipe weld inspection results, optimization of processes and general quality control. The seamless integration makes it possible to apply LiveFilters, overlays and other image enhancement tools to retrieve the best inspection results. The video recorder module can be added to existing systems at any time.

The operator has the choice between different video formats, compression rates and filter presets. Due to the flexibility of the Xplus the video recorder can be used with all available hardware from Image Intensifiers (II) to Digital Radiography (DR). With the lossless recording mode class B of the EN-17636 can be easily achieved.

ASTM reference images

To classify errors according to the ASTM standard the digital reference catalogue supports the operator to make a correct decision. The Xplus ASTM module embeds the official reference images seamlessly into the image enhancement and inspection environment. The errors will be scaled automatically to the current geometric magnification of the X-ray system to compare it with the right dimensions. Therefore, the system has to be calibrated once before the inspection process through the simple VisiConsult One-Click calibration.

If there are still doubts the reference defect can be directly projected into the current X-ray image for best comparison. The operator can choose the defect type and size from an image browser. All official defect types like shrinkages, porosities, cracks and many more are covered through this module. Multiple materials like aluminum and steel are available.

Computed Tomography

VisiConsult offers a sophisticated Computed Tomography (CT) suit for advanced 3D inspection. Most of our cabinets like the XRH111 have a native CT support. This modular approach makes it possible to upgrade systems even years after installation in case requirements change. To provide our customers the maximum flexibility our cabinets are also capable of visual inspection, CNC controlled sequences and Automated Defect Recognition (ADR). Switching between the modes is done effortlessly without any downtime.

This leads to an increased system utilization and saves investment costs for multiple inspection systems. In every day operations simplicity is the key. To ensure an efficient workflow the image acquisition is a native feature of the Xplus Handle. Typical applications are actual-nominal comparison, porosity analysis, measurement and CAD comparison.
